About the Llangollen Fringe Festival

The 'Fringe' is run entirely by volunteers, dedicating their time for the love of the arts, music, entertainment and all things in between.  It was born in July 1997, in an impromptu tent on an out-of-town playing field.

From then through to its present central location in the Town Hall, via a converted weavers' shed, the Fringe has increased its reputation with every year.

Over the years it has provided affordable events for individuals and families from all over the world.  It has always punched well above its weight with names such as Damian Hurst, Cerys Mattews, Carol Ann Duffey, The Beat, Charlotte Church, The Blockheads, Sir Andrew Motion to name but a few!  It also provides access to World Music, Folk, Dance, Comedy, Workshops, Informed Walks, has themed Train Journeys and Canal Trips... the list continues to grow year on year.

Initially, the Fringe's mission statement was "to provide entertainment and education to the community of Llangollen, North Wales". This mission has grown with the festival, and now, in addition to offering inspiring, eclectic and high profile events, we actively promote the concept of sustainability - culturally, socially, economically and environmentally.

This is expressed both in the festival itself and in the activities and projects which it supports through "in-kind" funding, promotion or association.

How this ethos is expressed is developing over time, but will incorporate lending support to, for example, local food producers and ecological projects (sustainable environmental), local community and arts groups, including an emphasis on Welsh and youth culture (sustainable cultural), projects promoting understanding and inclusion, for instance, inter-faith (sustainable social), and projects promoting enterprises such as Fairtrade (sustainable economics).

The Fringe is evolving and developing into a sustainable arts festival that will become increasingly well known throughout Britain.

Because of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic this year we are providing entertainment online.  This is reaching a far broader worldwide and inclusive audience than we could have ever imagined, adding to the reputation that Llangollen is a truly international entertainment destination.

Events are run by the Fringe organisation itself and through actively catalysing collaborations with other promoters, community and arts groups.
