Virginia Barrett
plus The Glasswalkers

Saturday July 19th - 6.00pm St. John's Church - £5.00 (includes interval glass of wine)

Virginia BarrettAfter a few years fronting the rock and blues band, Hank and The Wolf, Virginia began to crave a more acoustic, laid back accompaniment, creating a platform for the voice and melody. Today's performances are uncluttered and spacious; Virginia's voice and finger picked guitar style complemented to superb effect by guitarist, Stewart Lupton.

The musical comparisons have ranged from Joni Mitchell and Carole King, all the way to Nick Cave and Tom Waits, but Virginia sounds most of all like herself. There is a unique and timeless quality about her songs. They feel familiar, yet fresh and different. She has a beautiful, warm, distinctive voice and is a fine lyricist. Her songs evenly distribute pure poetry, raw sensuality and kitchen sink irony.

Although generally categorised as British acoustic/contemporary folk/blues/jazz, Virginia recently won thousands of new listeners from the world of dance music, as a collaboration with deep house band, Mettle Music climbed high in the UK Dance chart. 'Capture' was then released on to 'Bar De Lune's 'Celtic Beats' album, sitting comfortably alongside Sinead O'Connor and Sarah McLachlan.

"The vocals are honey with an edge, melancholy charmed with shrewd, uncluttered arrangements. As an emerging new talent, Virginia Barrett is definitely one to keep an eye out-and ears open-for." - Dave White, Songbook Magazine

Plus The Glasswalkers, a band ignored by the music press, their families, friends and often each other, but a band nonetheless who shaped the music of the nineties and beyond. A threesome, one lives in Wales, one in Liverpool and one in New Zealand, worth crossing the world for, as they have to themselves.
