Simon Grennan and Christopher Sperandio
Simon Grennan and Christopher Sperandio, whose projects are well known internationally for mixing direct public participation with thought-provoking, challenging and entertaining end results, have created 10 comic strip portraits of Denbighshire life. Focusing on ten local people who all take the ‘Denbighshire Free Press’ newspaper they have created a snapshot of life across North Wales.
Zoë, one of the ten Denbighshire people who worked with Grennan & Sperandio on the new comic strips commented: “It’s fab to see myself as a cartoon character – it’s like me, but more so! I’m really pleased with the strip. It captures a bit of my life forever.”
Simon Sait
Photographic and digital artist, Simon Sait, is this year’s Fringe featured photographer. Simon’s photography draws inspiration from both the natural and built environment. His passion for landscape and architecture shines through the stunning scenes he captures.
As well as scenes from the rural environment, the Chester based photographer’s repertoire includes shots of lesser known views within the City, giving people a fresh outlook on their surroundings. Simon believes we have a moral duty to care for our planet and each other and 10% of all his profit goes to environmental and social charities.
Ann Bridges - ‘Painted Ladies’
During the Museums and Galleries Month of May, Ann Bridges worked as Artist in Residence at Plas Newydd in Llangollen. The Ladies of Llangollen kept journals and notebooks containing interesting and quirky observations of their life together, following their ‘elopement’ from Ireland in 1778.
The residency will be based around the keeping of a sketch book diary making reference to the Ladies, their house and gardens. Ann keeps sketch book diaries as an important part of her professional practice but also as an ongoing family archive, examples of which will be on show.
